“Taken by the Huntsman” by Mistral Dawn

Mistral Dawn’s exciting fantasy takes a sensual look at the fae. This book was not at all what I expected and it definitely caught and held my attention.

When Cassie is taken by the Erlking and leader of the Wild Hunt, Caderyn, it is only the beginning of the story of Faerie and the variety of Fae who reside there. The Fae who are loyal to the Erlking are more than happy to serve their master and help him to win the heart of his Anamchara or “soulmate”. On the other hand there are the rivals of Caderyn who would happily see Cassie dead. As the intrigue develops within Caderyn’s world, the Erlking himself is on the hunt for a Sidhe who has murdered a child and must be punished. Against this backdrop of Fae customs, Cassie is learning about the world she is now a part of. When Caderyn returns to his home he begins his careful yet determined seduction of his Anamchara. As Cassie learns more about the huntsman she finds herself trusting him and eventually falling in love with him. Their passions finally explode into an intense sexual encounter when they finally become lovers, their relationship sealed with a Scath, a green tattoo on Cassie’s shoulder indicating she was forever protected by the Erlking. Erotic, sensual, and detailed, the character development of the Erlking is excellent. He is sexy, funny, loving, powerful, and gentle; a fine combination in any woman’s book. Cassie is sometimes bratty, but her youthful naivete plays well against Caderyn’s wisdom and age. There are hints at her past and it would be nice if a bit more about her history was presented. However, the basic reasons for her hesitation to immediately submit to Caderyn certainly makes sense and also builds the anticipation to their consummation even more exciting.

As the story continues, the dangers Cassie faces as Anamchara to Caderyn grow. While the threat to Cassie intensifies, the love and passion between the Huntsman and his soulmate deepens. This is a sexy love story with enough underlying scheming and plotting to keep the reader’s attention.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes a spicy love story and is fascinated by the world of the Fae. But be warned, this is not a book for those under 18, it does contain graphic sexual passages.
